Junior Sous Chef


Position Summary


The Junior Sous Chef supports the Executive Chef and Sous Chef team in overseeing daily kitchen operations, ensuring consistent food quality, maintaining cleanliness and safety standards, and supporting line-level staff execution. This role is hands-on and operationally focused, requiring strong culinary fundamentals, organization, urgency, and the ability to lead by example in a fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily kitchen operations across prep, line, and service periods
  • Support food preparation and execution to ensure consistency, quality, and presentation standards are met
  • Supervise and motivate line cooks and prep cooks during service
  • Assist with scheduling, station assignments, and shift management as needed
  • Ensure all food is prepared and stored in compliance with health, sanitation, and safety regulations
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen stations, walk-ins, storage areas, and equipment
  • Monitor product quality, freshness, and inventory levels
  • Assist with receiving and properly storing deliveries
  • Help manage waste, portion control, and food cost initiatives
  • Support onboarding and training of new kitchen team members
  • Step into leadership responsibilities in the absence of senior culinary management
  • Maintain a professional, calm, and solutions-oriented presence during high-volume service periods


Qualifications

  • 1–3+ years of culinary or kitchen leadership experience in a high-volume restaurant, hotel, or hospitality environment
  • Strong understanding of kitchen operations, food safety, and sanitation standards
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced setting
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Culinary degree or formal culinary training preferred, but not required
  • Food Handler and/or ServSafe certification preferred


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in hot, fast-paced kitchen environments
